Job Title: Red Hat Engineer

Location: Reston, VA

Clearance Required:  Eligibility for a Security Clearance

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The candidate will assist with the establishment of a new Government data center in a colocation facility, to include the establishment of production and non-production network, compute, virtualization, storage, telecom, IT security, and cloud components.  The candidate will assist as needed with aspects of data and application migration from the current to the new environment.  The candidate should be capable of providing tier three and four engineering and automation support in a cloud and on-prem physical/virtual Linux and Windows server provisioning environment. The candidate will work closely with team members and infrastructure partners to engineer, automate, and implement design decisions, often requiring the development of working knowledge in new fields to integrate a wide array of software. The candidate must be able to recommend, implement, and defend decisions that maintain the enterprise baseline in support of the office/component stated desire to support standardization at the IT infrastructure layer and the current office/component focus on automated operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical guidance in software engineering techniques and automated support tools
  • Analyze functional business applications and design specifications for functional activities
  • Prepare required documentation, including both program-level and user level documentation
  • Assist in establishing standards for information systems procedures
  • Complete day to day Operations & Maintenance tasks
  • Perform operating system software updates/upgrades/patches
  • Perform technical evaluations, analysis and troubleshooting for all supported servers in response to help desk tickets including, server failures, full system outages, troubleshooting
  • Assist in server maintenance and special projects, during extended work hours
  • Support customer in the development, automation, and maintenance of a server baseline
  • Assess server loads and work with tech lead on developing tuning recommendations

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • YUM or other Linx patch management
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux including Red Hat and variants of the Linux operating system such as but not limited to Scientific Linux or CentOS.
  • Demonstrated experience with shell scripting and manipulating the Linux command line.
  • Demonstrated experience employing engineering skill and critical thinking with respect to providing tier three infrastructure support.
  • Demonstrated experience in information security and implementation of Linux security tools.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating new capabilities into a software baseline.
  • Red Hat Certification
  • Linux: 4 years
  • YUM: 1 year
  • security +: 1 year

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience with RHSA.
  • Demonstrated experience with Puppet.
  • Demonstrated experience with Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience with RHEL.
  • Demonstrated experience with scripting

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
