Neustar is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to be based in our Sterling, VA office.  This role calls for a creative and intellectually curious attorney, who is comfortable working alongside senior legal and business leaders to formulate solutions to evolving challenges. To execute on these solutions, this individual must also possess strong analytical, communication and negotiating skills, and an understanding of the Information Services market. For the right individual, this position provides a unique opportunity to be exposed to all corporate legal matters and make a valuable contribution.

This role will report directly to the General Counsel.    

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the General Counsel in managing litigation and other disputes.
  • Assists management with employment law concerns, contracts, claims and creating company policies.
  • Ensures compliance with trademarks, patents, intellectual property and trade secrets.
  • Identifies and analyzes legal issues and risks, reviews and drafts miscellaneous legal contracts, presents clear recommendations, and ensures legal compliance across the full spectrum of legal issues facing the company.
  • Responds to inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers and the business community.
  • Anticipates legal issues and effectively resolves sensitive and complex legal matters involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with the broader Neustar legal team by sharing knowledge, seeking connectivity, and relating specific area of expertise to the group’s broader business contribution. Works with the team to evaluate, analyze and frame challenges.
  • Performs other duties as needed.


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Candidates must be a member of the bar and have 3-5 years of applicable law practice experience.
  • Team player with strong desire to provide business-focused legal support, but also highly self-motivated, managing multiple priorities and assignments.
  • Flexible, open to change, able to anticipate and quick to adapt to a fast-growing, fast-evolving and challenging environment.
  • Willingness and expectation to grow substantive expertise.
  • Proven ability to learn and understand the business environment with the ability to translate evolving legal needs into actions.
  • Highly responsive and proven client-focus and service orientation.
  • Experience providing legal support to various internal constituencies, including the human resources, finance, engineering, product management, privacy, external affairs, and marketing departments.
  • Ability to work independently (with minimal direction and supervision), take initiative, and manage multiple priorities and assignments
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced and fluid environment
