Salesforce hosts web services and applications written by thousands of internal developers and tens of thousands of customers to provide the largest business automation cloud on the planet. We are building out our teams to reinvigorate the way we deliver, deploy, operate, secure, monitor, and repair our data centers and the code that runs across them - at consumer web scale. We are looking to add experienced network engineering leaders who can step up and own large portions of that vision.


The network is the most fundamental substrate of the Salesforce Customer Success Platform. And in any network, there are a set of individuals that are empowered to make decisions which influence connectivity and performance for every element of the business.

At Salesforce, the Global Network Strategy team is empowered to make those decisions. As its leader, you are responsible for them.

Perhaps you've chatted live with a support agent on a website. Updated a sales lead on our CRM platform? Created an email journey within Marketing Cloud? Or maybe you just checked up on your social media mentions with Social Studio. All of these services, and many more, rely on the global Salesforce network to meet the needs of our customers.

As the leader of the network strategy, performance & capacity planning function, you will lead and manage the team responsible for several key network functions:

  • Global transit, peering and transport programs and strategy
  • Backbone and edge capacity planning
  • Performance metrics and reporting
  • Interconnect relationship management
  • Fiber-optic planning, mapping and construction
  • Optical/DWDM management and engineering
  • M&A-driven connectivity integration
  • Connectivity vendor relationship management
  • Circuit/service negotiation, budgeting, procurement and delivery

You'll act as a functional leader in this role, meaning that your technical acumen and experience should meet (and ideally exceed) that of your team members. You'll be expected to contribute meaningfully to technical discourse, and act as an engineering resource that can also service the team's work stream. You'll also be expected to construct, curate and report on the team's backlog and work output.

In addition to making correct connectivity choices, it's your responsibility to stay ahead of our business growth. Salesforce regularly delivers new product functionality, new features and expanded customer capacity that, in addition to M&A activity, drives massive, web scale network demand. In your role leading network capacity management, it's up to you to ensure that the network scales ahead of our business.

Basic Requirements:

  • Be kind.
  • Demonstrate 7+ years of progressive leadership in a network strategy/capacity planning function.
  • Be able to articulate 5+ years of management experience, encompassing mentorship, strategic leadership, and hiring.
  • Significant, actively maintained relationships with executive management at large connectivity vendors
  • Deep, extensive skill in negotiating commercial terms governing connectivity relationships
  • The ability to construct a convincing and appealing written narrative is crucial.
    • Corollary: Your written grammar is beyond reproach.
  • You must be able to build a business case to justify investments crucial to your function.
  • Your engineering acumen must be deep, recent and industry-leading. You will be expected to mentor and grow engineering leaders that have constructed large pieces of today's commodity Internet.
  • You must carry yourself with confidence, poise and humility, especially with senior executive leadership.
  • You must be fearless in your willingness to enact and support change.

Preferred Requirements:

  • You should demonstrate 10+ years of progressive leadership in a network strategy/capacity planning function.
  • You should have 7+ years of experience managing both individual engineers and managers, encompassing mentorship, strategic leadership and hiring.
  • Prior experience leading network strategy for a large carrier, CDN or web-scale peer.
  • Prior experience negotiating, purchasing and managing connectivity services at web scale.


  • MS in Computer Science or related field, or
  • BS in Computer Science plus relevant job-related experience, or
  • Industry-leading job experience equivalent to a college degree
